Do You Have an Older Lake Without a Bottom-Release Valve?

Do you have an older lake without a bottom-release valve? Concerned about complications from stagnant water?  Install a basic siphon system.

Make sure the pipe inside your pond doesn’t sit directly on the bottom.  Keep it a foot or two above sediment to minimize risk of clogging the pipe.

Water can be lifted up to 20 feet. Success will vary per region given the elevation and pressure at your location.  Check with a Natural Resource Conservation Service agent for accurate methods to measure the distance you’re attempting to move water.

Recycling bottom water is definitely a good idea.  Most importantly, install a valve in the pipe so you can control siphon flow.  Carefully monitor discharge rates.  Don’t get distracted during operation and return to find your pond empty. Be sure to install a vent to keep the siphon from “overdoing” its job.
